You need to ensure your bunded
area is fully sealed and protected
against spillages of water, oil,
diesel or other contaminants.
The Control of Pollution (Oil
Storage) Regulations 2001
specifically requires the
secondary containment base
and walls to be impermeable to
water and oil. In other words, they
should be fully watertight.
When selecting a sealer for your
bunded area you need to consider
its resistance to chemicals and
abrasion and whether the coating
can be applied to metal such
as metal feet, as well as to the
concrete base and walls.
For added security at potential
weak points, for example, where
the wall sits on the concrete
base, we recommend you place
fibreglass tape at right angles
where the two meet and then bed
this into the sealer.
